Deepalaya is proud to share a significant milestone in its journey towards creating a more inclusive and accessible society. In recent months, Deepalaya hosted eight hearing-impaired interns from the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC), marking an important step in mainstreaming inclusion within the organization.
What made this initiative truly special was that the interns were not confined to a single project or department. While associated with Project Sambhav, they actively participated across Deepalaya’s mainstream programmes, including HRC. Initially, communication posed certain challenges for the teams; however, with the support of sign language training and a shared commitment to inclusion, staff members successfully adapted and engaged meaningfully with the interns.
The experience proved to be mutually enriching. Alongside providing the interns with professional exposure and opportunities, it also enabled Deepalaya staff members to develop foundational skills in Indian Sign Language, further strengthening the organization’s inclusive work culture.
Deepalaya has consistently taken proactive steps towards accessibility and inclusion. Earlier, the organization became one of the first NGOs to train its staff to perform the National Anthem in Indian Sign Language — a symbolic yet impactful initiative reflecting its dedication to equal participation for all.
Recognizing these efforts, Deepalaya’s esteemed funding partner, Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF), has invited the organization to conduct Indian Sign Language training programmes for bankers across India. The first training programme, designed for 35 bankers from Punjab & Sind Bank, is scheduled from 6–8 May 2026 at the Conference Hall of IIBF, Hauz Khas, New Delhi. The second programme in the series will take place from 19–21 May 2026 at the same venue.
The training curriculum and programme schedule have been carefully prepared in consultation with ISLRTC and IIBF to ensure meaningful learning and practical understanding. To facilitate the sessions, Deepalaya has invited experienced interpreters from Odisha and Jharkhand, who will conduct the training under the able leadership of Adv. Dr. K. C. George.
Looking ahead, Deepalaya also aims to conduct similar training programmes at its own venue by building internal expertise and empowering its own team members to lead future initiatives.
This achievement is not only a proud moment for Deepalaya but also a meaningful contribution towards building a society where inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities become a shared responsibility.
